Atlético Baleares says goodbye to promotion (2-5)

CD Atlético Baleares lost at Estadio Balear against Teruel (2-5) in the second leg of the first promotion playoff to Primera RFEF. With this result, the blue-and-white team said goodbye to the season and their chances of promotion. They couldn’t overcome a CD Teruel side that capitalized on its chances and sealed the tie in stoppage time.

The ATB started the match very well and had clear chances, but couldn’t convert. The first half ended 0-0.

The second half was a rollercoaster. The visitors went 0-2 ahead with goals from Moha (50’) and Le Normand (70’) on two counterattacks, but Luis Blanco’s men managed to equalize. First, Florin Andone with a header (72’), and then Berto Rosas with a spectacular bicycle kick (82’) made it 2-2. However, in the 92nd minute, Febas (Teruel) scored the 2-3, and with ATB pushing forward, the visitors sealed the game with two more goals from Peña and Dufur to make it 2-5.

With this defeat, CD Atlético Baleares closes the 2024/25 season.

Luis Blanco’s post-match thoughts:

“The script of the match was surreal. We were doing well and creating chances, but they scored and took over the game.”

“After coming back… we deserved much more, but merit doesn’t count in football.”

“Today it was our turn to lose and we have to swallow it. That’s it.”

“It’s all part of the game. If we had been more accurate… but we weren’t. The opponent did things right and punished us.”

“I’m very proud of all the players. Not just today, but throughout my time here on the island. I found a group that believed they could do it. They gave everything.”

“The dressing room is hurt. Tomorrow we’ll see things differently. Not just us, but everyone who loves the club.”

“I came here with a goal. Today I can’t make an assessment… I don’t know what will happen with me. I’ve been treated very well here.”
