ATB claim first away win of the season in Santa Eulària (1–3)
CD Atlético Baleares secured their first away victory of the season with a 3–1 win over Penya Deportiva.
Goals from Florin Andone, Gerardo Bonet and Álvaro Martín sealed a hard-fought victory in a match that saw both sides reduced to ten men before half-time. The afternoon also marked Barto Fontanet’s first-team debut.
The game began with neither side taking control, although ATB gradually started creating chances. Bover had the first opportunity in the third minute, while Raúl Caballero tried his luck with an acrobatic effort in the 17th minute, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, Florin stretched to reach a good delivery from Nofre, before Cata fired narrowly wide from outside the box.
ATB’s persistence paid off in the 35th minute. Cata delivered a cross into the area, and Florin Andone pounced on the loose ball to break the deadlock.
The closing stages of the first half were full of drama. In the 37th minute, Penya’s goalkeeper was sent off after rushing out towards the halfway line and bringing down Cata. However, five minutes later, Nofre was also shown a straight red card following an incident that resulted in a penalty. The hosts converted from the spot in the 43rd minute, sending both teams into the break level at 1–1 and down to ten men.
After the restart, Vicenç produced an excellent save to deny a dangerous Penya effort in the 53rd minute. ATB continued to threaten at the other end, with Raúl forcing the goalkeeper into a save from a low, angled shot in the 57th minute.
Just two minutes later, the visitors regained the lead. Gerardo Bonet struck a volley towards the goalkeeper’s near post to put Óscar Troya’s side back in front.
With a 2–1 advantage, ATB kept working hard to protect their lead while looking for a third goal. Vicenç reacted well to cut out a cross, and Iván López made an important interception in the closing stages. There were also chances to put the game beyond reach earlier, most notably when Jofre, who had just come on alongside Izan, missed a golden opportunity in the 70th minute.
The decisive goal arrived in the 87th minute. Pablo Hernández delivered a free-kick, and Álvaro Martín rose to head home and make it 3–1. In the closing minutes, Barto Fontanet made his first-team debut after replacing Soler, while Rubén Catalá almost added a fourth with a powerful left-footed strike that crashed against the post in the 92nd minute.
A hard-earned victory in Santa Eulària gives ATB their first three points on the road this season. The team keep pushing forward and are hungry for more.
