2–1 defeat in Castellón: missed chances cost ATB

The match in Castellón got underway with Álex Pachón making his first start, playing ahead of Jaume Tovar in attack.

The opening stages were played at a high tempo and, as early as the 6th minute, Pachón had a clear-cut chance but chose to square the ball to Moha, with the pass running just too long. The team continued to push down the wings and, in the 22nd minute, a good cross from Pol went begging with no one there to finish.

That pressure paid off in the 27th minute, when Tovar finished off a counter-attack he had started himself, winning a penalty and calmly converting it down the middle to put ATB ahead. Castellón B responded quickly, however, equalising in the 35th minute.

Before the break, in the 37th minute, Tovar struck a volley that forced a fine save from the home goalkeeper, and in the 42nd, Pachón rattled the crossbar after a cross from Jaume Pol. In the closing moments of the first half, Moha won a dangerous free kick on the edge of the box, and that brought the half to an end.

After the restart, with the score level at 1–1, Castellón B took the lead again thanks to a penalty awarded from a corner. The Blanquiazul side tried to hit back immediately and, in the 52nd minute, Sheriff had two excellent chances to draw level, but the home keeper pulled off a superb double save.

The second half was marked by few clear chances and frequent stoppages, which disrupted the flow of the game. Late on, in the 83rd minute, Víctor Morillo had another good opportunity but failed to make proper contact.

The match ended in a 2–1 defeat in Castellón, ATB’s first loss of 2026.

The next opponent will be Valencia Mestalla, on Sunday the 8th at 12:00 pm at the Estadi Balear.
