CD Atlético Baleares crowned champions of the 57th Nicolás Brondo Trophy (3-1)

CD Atlético Baleares were crowned champions of the 57th Nicolás Brondo Trophy after beating UE Porreres 3-1 at the Estadi Balear. Goals from Miguel Soler, Jofre Cherta and Gerardo Bonet saw Óscar Troya’s side come from behind after the visitors had taken an early lead.

Before kick-off, the first-team squad was officially presented to the Balearicos supporters.

Óscar Troya started with Vicenç Sabater in goal; Gerardo Bonet, Iván López, Álvaro Martín, Pablo Hernández, Miguel Soler, Alpha Mamadou, Nofre Riera, Miguel Martín, Axel Bejarano and Adri Català.

The match got off to a difficult start for the blue and whites. In the fifth minute, a defensive mix-up allowed Porreres to take the lead (0-1).

Atlético Baleares responded and began to threaten the visitors’ penalty area more frequently. In the 15th minute, Axel Bejarano went close to an equaliser with a header. Two minutes later, Pablo Hernández picked out Adri Català with an excellent pass, but the move was ruled out for offside.

Iván López also tried his luck with a header in the 25th minute as the team continued to push for an equaliser.

Their persistence paid off just before half-time. In the 45th minute, Alpha Mamadou reached the byline and cut the ball back brilliantly for Miguel Soler, who arrived to fire home and make it 1-1.

Troya made six changes at the break. Juli Rivas, Fabrice Montcheu, Jofre Cherta, Rubén Bover, Rubén Català and Raúl Caballero replaced Vicenç Sabater, Alpha Mamadou, Miguel Soler, Miguel Martín, Adri Català and Axel Bejarano.

Atlético Baleares came out determined to complete the comeback. Caballero had a good opportunity in the 52nd minute as he arrived to meet the ball, but was unable to find the target.

The 2-1 came in the 61st minute. Jofre Cherta finished the move superbly to complete the turnaround and put the blue and whites ahead.

Troya continued to give his players minutes during the second half. Izan Llinares and Barto Fontanet replaced Nofre Riera and Pablo Hernández. Álvaro Guijarro, Mario Lázaro and Abdou were later introduced in place of Gerardo Bonet, Álvaro Martín and Juli Rivas.

Before those final changes, Atlético Baleares added their third goal. In the 81st minute, Gerardo Bonet reacted sharply inside the box to take his chance and seal the final 3-1 scoreline.

There were no further goals as Atlético Baleares brought their pre-season campaign at the Estadi Balear to a close by lifting the 57th Nicolás Brondo Trophy in front of their supporters.
