Atlético Baleares narrowly defeated in Alcorcón in their penultimate pre-season match (1-0)
A first-half mistake shaped the course of the match
The team started with great personality, controlling possession and creating danger on the wings. Just minutes in, a free kick from Bover crashed against the crossbar. However, in the 17th minute, a mistake playing out from the back allowed Alcorcón to take the lead.
Far from giving up, ATB kept pushing, and once again Bover tried his luck from outside the box, missing just wide. With good circulation and tempo, the team reached the hydration break with confidence. Afterwards, a near-post flick from Florin on a corner went over the bar.
In the second half, Morillo came on for Tovar and Jofre moved into midfield after playing as a winger in the first period. The script didn’t change: the team continued to dictate play with long spells of possession. A great cross from Juanmi to the far post almost connected with Víctor, who was inches away. Shortly after, Florin, with his back to goal, appealed for a penalty in a controversial action that ended in a dangerous counter, well dealt with by Pol.
Minutes later, Axel, Alejandro and Gerardo came on for Ramis, Sheriff and Juanmi. Despite their efforts, clear chances still didn’t arrive. In the final stretch, academy players Català and Diego Estrada got minutes, replacing Bover and Andone.
The heat was a decisive factor in a match where the Balearic side controlled possession but lacked sharpness in the final third.
The next test will be against U.D. Rotlet Molinar at Brondo, the final pre-season match before the league kicks off.
