Blue-and-white festival in the Balearic derby to secure second place (5-1)
Convincing home win for Atlético Baleares in a derby controlled from start to finish
The Balearic derby kicked off with Hugo Anglada in the spotlight, starting for the second consecutive match and making his home debut in the lineup.
The game began at a high tempo, with an early yellow card for Sheriff in the 3rd minute. As time went on, ATB grew into the match and, in the 17th minute, the first real warning came: Tovar came close to scoring after a brilliant pass from Moha.
The reward came shortly after. Just 50 seconds later, Morillo delivered a pinpoint cross that Jaume finished clinically to make it 1-0. The attacking storm continued and, in the 22nd minute, Miguelito swung in a left-footed cross that Sheriff flicked on at the far post to score his first goal in blue and white (2-0).
The dominance was absolute. Jofre picked up a yellow card in the 20th minute — his fifth, which brings a suspension — but the team didn’t slow down. In the 30th minute, captain Bover joined the party with an unstoppable left-footed strike to make it 3-0.
Before the break, Moha went close again and Tovar even found the net in the 43rd minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Deep into added time (45+3), CE Andratx pulled one back through Garry (3-1), slightly reducing the deficit before halftime.
After the restart, Jaume Pol and Axel came on for the booked Jofre and Sheriff.
Iván López was shown a yellow card in the 49th minute, but Baleares struck again soon after. In the 57th minute, Moha finished off a great assist from Miguelito to make it 4-1, registering his second assist of the match.
The attacking display continued in the 67th minute, when Tovar completed his brace following a brilliant team move involving Víctor, Moha and the striker himself (5-1).
With the match decided, the coach made a triple substitution in the 73rd minute, bringing on Serrano, Pachón and Lache. In the closing stages, Moha still had another dangerous chance while the team comfortably managed their lead.
Post-match comments from Luis Blanco:
“I want to congratulate everyone for the performance and the win. The negative aspect is the goal we conceded — we need to keep improving there.
I feel the team’s level is improving; last week we already had positive signs and that’s helping us. It’s important to find the best version of most players, because everyone is performing at a high level.
We make adjustments depending on what we believe is needed. We decided to rotate the lineup, as Gerardo had been involved in almost everything.
Regarding the disallowed goal, we were told that Iván was interfering with the goalkeeper’s line of sight.
We are fully focused on winning every match. We cannot take any steps backwards.”
