Atlético Baleares fight back to snatch a point against Lorca Deportiva (2-2)
Late goals from Raúl Caballero and Florin Andone earn ATB a point after trailing 2-0 at half-time.
CD Atlético Baleares fought back to draw 2-2 against Lorca Deportiva at El Rubial in the seventh round of Segunda Federación. Óscar Troya’s side recovered from conceding twice in the first half to claim a point thanks to goals from Raúl Caballero and Florin Andone.
It was a difficult start for the Balearic side. Lorca broke the deadlock in the fifth minute, leaving ATB chasing the game from the outset. Vicenç Sabater was called into action in the 16th minute to safely gather a dangerous free-kick, while Rubén Bover soon created an attacking opportunity that lacked a finishing touch.
The ATB goalkeeper came to his side’s rescue again in the 32nd minute with an impressive double save. The visitors responded when Álvaro Martín headed wide from a Bover cross, but the hosts doubled their lead in the 35th minute with a shot from the edge of the box. Another outstanding save from Vicenç before the break prevented Lorca from extending their advantage further.
Head coach Óscar Troya made three changes at half-time, introducing Raúl Caballero, Alpha and Izan Llinares in place of Hugo Anglada, Miguelito and Jofre Cherta. ATB pushed to reduce the deficit and began creating chances from set pieces. In the 60th minute, Alpha headed over the bar from a Bover corner, and five minutes later the opposition goalkeeper produced a fine save following another corner.
Rubén Catalá replaced Adri Catalá in the 71st minute, while Pablo Hernández came on for Miguel Soler in the 77th. ATB’s persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute when Raúl Caballero pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 and give his side renewed hope of taking something from the game.
The goal set up a thrilling finale. Rubén Catalá came close to equalising in the 86th minute before ATB were awarded a penalty in the 90th. Florin Andone stepped up and, despite seeing his initial spot-kick saved, reacted quickest to fire home the rebound and level the score at 2-2.
Lorca Deportiva were reduced to ten men in the closing stages, but there was no further change to the scoreline. Atlético Baleares completed a determined comeback from two goals down to secure a hard-earned point after battling until the very end.
