A point that feels like too little against Intercity (2-2)
CD Atlético Baleares picked up a point against CF Intercity (2-2) in their second consecutive away game of the season. Óscar Troya’s side responded in the second half and managed to turn the game around, but all three points slipped away in the 89th minute when the Alicante side equalised.
The match began evenly, although the Blue and Whites gradually started to pose a greater threat. Adri Catalá had one of the clearest chances with an effort that went over the crossbar, while Raúl Caballero also tried his luck from the edge of the box.
The opening goal arrived in the 27th minute. Intercity took the lead, forcing ATB to find a response. Before the break, Cata went close again and Raúl had a good opportunity inside the box, but the home defence prevented the equaliser.
After the break, ATB came out determined to change the course of the game. Raúl threatened with a header, while Nofre Riera caused problems down the left flank with several dangerous crosses into the box.
In the 56th minute, a handball inside the area resulted in a penalty for Atlético Baleares. Rubén Bover stepped up and made no mistake to level the score at 1-1.
The team continued to push and, following a well-worked team move, Gerardo Bonet completed the turnaround in the 67th minute, making it 1-2 from an Adri Catalá assist.
A few minutes later, Óscar Troya turned to his bench. Rubén Catalá replaced Raúl Caballero, before Pablo Hernández and Alpha came on for Miguelito and Jofre Cherta.
In the closing stages, Intercity were reduced to ten men following an incident in which Cata was through on goal. ATB went into the final minutes ahead on the scoreboard and with a numerical advantage.
However, Intercity found an equaliser in the 89th minute to make it 2-2, denying the Blue and Whites the chance to return to Palma with all three points.
A draw in Alicante for an Atlético Baleares side that fought back to take the lead in the second half, only to see victory slip away in the closing stages.
