Wastefulness costs ATB in Terrassa (3-1)

ATB fell 3-1 away in Catalonia against Terrassa despite creating numerous scoring chances. The home side’s greater clinical edge prevented Luis Blanco’s team from picking up points at the Estadi Olímpic de Terrassa.

The match got off to a positive start for ATB, who controlled possession for much of the first half. The first chance came in the 11th minute, with a Morillo effort blocked by the defence. Shortly afterwards, in the 19th minute, Tovar had a goal ruled out in a very tight decision.

After the twenty-minute mark, in the 24th minute, a move involving Tovar and Moha ended in the net, but once again the goal was disallowed for offside. Terrassa, without creating too many clear chances, took the lead in the 30th minute through Guti, whose precise left-footed strike left the goalkeeper with no chance.

ATB refused to drop their heads and kept pushing for an equaliser, but in the 42nd minute another disallowed goal for Tovar once again reduced the visitors’ options before the break.

Just after the restart, a stunning goal from Terrassa made the task even harder for ATB. Even so, the visitors continued to press and create clear chances, but lacked the finishing touch.

In the 59th minute, Tovar pulled one back after a fine pass from Jofre, reigniting hope for Luis Blanco’s side. After the goal, ATB threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, but once again a lack of sharpness proved costly.

In the closing minutes, a well-worked set piece from Terrassa, following a poor clearance, sealed the match with the final 3-1.

Now it’s time to reset and focus on the next challenge, with ATB set to face Atlético de Madrid this Wednesday in the Copa del Rey.
