Atlético Baleares draw 2-2 against Girona B

Atlético Baleares head coach Luis Blanco started matchday 10 against Girona B with a depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions. Compared to the previous game against Reus, the starting eleven featured four changes: Florin Andone returned to the lineup, while Miguelito, Víctor Morillo, and Carlos Julio replaced Moha Keita; Jaume Pol, suspended after his red card; Iván López; and Gabriel Ramos.

First Half

The game began at a frantic pace. The home side created the first chance through Jaume, though he couldn’t finish it.

However, Girona B took the lead after a scrappy corner action, with defender Biel Farrés scoring in the 11th minute.

ATB reacted immediately, pushing forward in attack. Around the 15-minute mark, Florin Andone fired the team’s first shot on target. Moments later, Jaume Tovar hit the crossbar with a powerful volley from outside the box.

In the 27th minute, a cross from Girona B nearly found the net but went just over. Soon after, Atlético Baleares equalised thanks to a penalty converted by Andone, after Jaume Tovar was brought down by a visiting defender.

Just moments later, the blue-and-white striker completed the turnaround — Tovar headed home a brilliant cross from Miguelito to make it 2-1.

The first half ended with the Balearic side firmly on the front foot.

Second Half

The second half began with a yellow card for Jofre Cherta. Girona B soon threatened again, but defender Carlos Julio made a key block inside the box.

In the 58th minute, Andone headed in what seemed to be his second goal, but it was ruled out for offside. Shortly after, Blanco made the first substitutions: Gabriel Ramis and Juanmi Durán came on for Carlos Julio and Florin Andone, who left to a standing ovation.

Halfway through the second half, the visitors equalised through Carles Garrido, who capitalised on a two-on-two situation following a midfield error.

Blanco went for the win, bringing on Moha Keita and Iván Serrano for Miguelito and Víctor Morillo. Later, after Ulrich received a yellow card in the 82nd minute, he was replaced by debutant Manu Morillo.

In the closing stages, Girona nearly took the lead, but the post denied them. Atlético Baleares pushed hard for a late winner, but the Catalan defence held firm.

Post-match press conference – Luis Blanco:

“I’m frustrated with the situation.”

“We fight so hard to get results and then give goals away.”

“Emotionally, we didn’t compete well in the final minutes.”

“We can’t switch off mentally when we’re playing well. If we don’t work on that, it’ll be very hard to get points.”

“They equalised because they competed better than us in key moments and because we gifted them goals when nothing was happening.”

“In the first half we grew into the game. In the second, they gained ground, but hadn’t really created chances. Later, we lost energy.”

The next Atlético Baleares match will be on November 16 against Torrent CF at 12:00 in Valencia.
