Moha strikes in the 98th minute to cement playoff spot (1-0)
A hard-fought win at the death against UE Olot in a game that grew in intensity and was decided in dramatic fashion. The team kept pushing until the end to secure all three points.
The match started at a slow pace with few chances, in a fairly even first half. The main changes in the lineup were the inclusion of Juanmi and Miguelito. The first chances came from a Moha effort saved by the Olot goalkeeper and, shortly after, a shot from Pol in the 19th minute that was also denied.
The team kept trying before the break: Manu Morillo had a chance in the 34th minute and, in the 36th, Juanmi attempted an overhead kick that went over the bar. Pol received a yellow card in a first half lacking attacking fluency; it is his fifth and he will be suspended.
After halftime, the team showed a different face and came out determined to win. The second half had a clear dominant side, with the team camped in the opposition’s half. The pressure resulted in five consecutive corners that seriously troubled Olot’s defence.
In the 63rd minute, key changes were made with a triple substitution: Juanmi made way for Jofre Cherta, Sheriff was replaced by Rubén Bover, and Manu Morillo by Jaume Tovar, aiming to maintain intensity and find the goal.
In the 74th minute, a brilliant play from Tovar led to a second yellow card for Olot’s number 18.
The pressure continued in the final stretch. In the 78th minute, Bover tried from distance but sent it over. In the 82nd minute, Iván López was booked (also suspended next game) in an increasingly tense match. The final substitution saw Pachón replace Lache, using all options from the bench.
With seven minutes added on, the team never stopped believing. Their reward came in the final play: Iván López won a crucial penalty, which Moha calmly converted to spark celebrations.
A dramatic victory that strengthens the team’s position in the playoff zone and takes them to 51 points, putting their objective firmly within reach.
The next fixture will be against SD Ibiza on Sunday, April 5 at 12:00.
Luis Blanco’s comments:
After the match, Luis Blanco analysed: “The second half was played entirely in one half, the team showed great energy but lacked finishing; the game unfolded that way due to circumstances”.
He added: “Even without being at our best, we played in their half. We need to improve our decision-making. They made it very difficult for us and we weren’t at our sharpest, but Moha made the difference with his finish”.
Finally, he assessed the team’s situation: “We now have 51 points. Mathematically it’s not done, but we’re in a very strong position”.
