Atlético Baleares rescue a point in the final minute against Alcoyano (1-1)

Kick-off

Matchday 7 for Atlético Baleares against CD Alcoyano began with tactical adjustments. Compared to the last match against CE Andratx, Luis Blanco made two changes to his starting lineup, bringing in Miguelito and Alejandro Pérez.

In the opening minutes after the whistle, the visitors from Alicante had the first dangerous chance following a defensive mistake by the home side, well dealt with by our goalkeeper Pablo García. The Balearic team controlled possession for much of the first half, but in the 23rd minute, Alcoyano took the lead through a cross headed in by Rubén Catalá.

After the visitors’ goal, Atlético Baleares enjoyed more of the ball but struggled to create clear chances. Jaume Tovar had several opportunities that forced the opposing goalkeeper into fine saves.

At the start of the second half, coach Luis Blanco made two substitutions to change the dynamics: Miguelito and Alejandro Pérez were replaced by Gerardo Bonet and Víctor Morillo.

The second half was marked mainly by Alcoyano’s repeated time-wasting, taking advantage of every opportunity to slow down the match. It wasn’t until the final minutes that academy player Català scored the equaliser — his first goal in the division after making his debut last weekend at Sa Plana.

With this late goal, Atlético Baleares rescued a draw at the death, earning a valuable point in a game that had been uphill from the start.

The next fixture for the blanquiazules will be on October 26th at 12:00h against RCD Espanyol B at the Estadi Balear.

Post-match press conference – Luis Blanco:

“Alcoyano have very good players; they’ll be near the top of the table by the end of the season.”

“They created the goal and not much else. It was a preventable play that affected us emotionally.”

“The team still has work to do — we don’t yet know how to control the tempo properly.”

“In the second half, we played at a level that, had it come earlier, the game would have been ours.”

“We lacked the same thing as last week: finishing.”

“One point is positive — we keep adding and move on.”
